Jessica Tobin, Visual Artist
Jessica Tobin is a visual artist based in New York City.
Jessica Tobin is a visual artist based in Saratoga Springs, New York. She holds an MFA from School of Visual Arts (27) and a BFA in Painting from Hunter College. Jessica has also studied art in Barcelona Spain and at the New York Studio School. In addition to her art education, she earned an MS in Biochemistry from Yale University, a background that continues to shape her attention to material and process.
Tobin's practice centers on gestural abstract painting, blending art-historical references with her experience of motherhood and caregiver. Her paintings capture and transform everyday moments of domesticity and play into abstracted landscapes. Influenced by the invented worlds of childhood play, these paintings explore the ever shifting landscape of imagination and family life. Experiential in nature she hopes the energy of playing with a child reaches the viewer and creates something new in the encounter.
Tobin’s work has been recognized with awards including the Kossak Painting Fellowship, and residencies such as the Vermont Studio Center. She has exhibited nationally and internationally in both museums and galleries.
